Leveraging Haidian District’s "1+1+N" Neighborhood Planner System and with strong support from the Haidian Town Government, full-time neighborhood planners and university partner teams jointly launched a series of initiatives themed "Revitalizing the Cultural Spaces of Jingxi Rice." By combining the strengths of local communities and academic institutions, these efforts aim to preserve the heritage of Jingxi rice culture and rekindle the prestige of the "Three Hills and Five Gardens"—a jewel in Beijing’s cultural crown.
The design intervention at the Jingxi Rice Ancient Cultural Relic seeks to cultivate distinct collective memories for diverse user groups by integrating architecture with the existing cultural and agricultural landscape. A strategically selected pathway, connecting adjacent villages and rice fields, serves as the foundation for a triangular, land-sensitive structure elevated above the ground. This design permits the road to traverse the building, intentionally inviting villagers and farmers to engage with the space while maintaining its functional continuity.
By adjusting the road’s crossing angle and framing a deliberate vista toward the rice fields, the architecture establishes a "view frame" that acts as a mnemonic device, offering each visitor a personalized carrier of memory. Within this framework, the spatial organization prioritizes functional efficiency, carefully orchestrating circulation paths to accommodate the varied needs of different users. This approach ensures that the building serves as both a communal hub and a repository of individual and shared experiences.
